Junior Bar/Bat Mitzvah Course (To enroll in this course click HERE)
This course consists of individually prepared tutoring and is normally offered to one student at a time. The course is offered in person, or on-line via Skype, Zoom, or other remote interactive communication systems. It is recommended that an initial discussion with the parents or responsible parties, takes place before the start of the course, in order to best conform to their desired scope and details of the materials to be covered. This discussion can be accomplished in person, or over the phone. Subsequent on-going discussions, answers to questions and interactions with the parents or responsible parties are always encouraged and are available free of charge.
The course includes the following primary components:
Preparation
This segment of the individual tutoring encompasses the significance and meaning of becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah and of the event itself. It covers its religious sources and the traditional customs and individual responsibilities associated with it. Also included in this segment is a ‘road-map’description and explanation of the various elements involved in the event, including related synagogue procedures and customs. This Preparation component is generally accomplished in 2-3 lessons. However, upon individual request, additional time can be given to this Preparation component in order to cover it in greater detail.
Hebrew
In this component the student is taught the Hebrew alphabet and the basic vowel system, to enable the Bar/Bat Mitzvah to advance to the following components which require elementary Hebrew reading skills. In conjunction with Hebrew reading, the student is also introduced to the Tikun and taught how to use it. Since Hebrew is involved in virtually all other components, it is continuously taught throughout the course.
Blessings
All pertinent blessings are taught, including procedures, meaning, understanding and the ability to chant them properly.
Chanting
Torah and Haftarah Trope systems are covered in this course, using the actual portions assigned to the Bar/Bat/Mitzvah. In addition to the chanting, the course also teaches procedures and comprehension of the selected portions, along with the aesthetics of the melodies.
Bar/Bat Mitzvah Speech (optional)
Review and assistance in turning out the studentgs best effort speech. The student is also encouraged to read the entire Parasha of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah date as preparation for discussion of the assigned verses in the speech.
